As a part of their continued growth, Capital Sound is pleased to announce the appointment of Erik Jaeckel as tour director for the 2008 season. Erik has been affiliated with the corps since its inception in 1995 as a marching member, volunteer and, this past season, a member of the visual staff.

"Erik is a perfect choice for this job," said Executive Director, Marc Gofstein. "Over this past summer, he constantly demonstrated the skills and qualities that make a great tour director. His resourcefulness helped us on several occasions, and his big-picture thinking is exactly the reason he was chosen for the job."

"I'm very excited about becoming Capital Sound's tour director," added Jaeckel. "It's a great opportunity to further help the corps I started with, and to help them get successfully down the road. More importantly, it's a chance to give back to the activity that gave me so much. I'm looking forward to a great year!"

In addition to his duties coordinating the 2008 tour, Jaeckel will also assist with recruiting and pre-camp preparations. His history with the corps, along with his involvement with the high school marching scene in Southern Wisconsin, has already produced several recruitment events throughout the Madison area.

Founded in 1995, Capital Sound is a non-profit youth organization dedicate to the betterment and enrichment of the youth of Madison and the State of Wisconsin through life-skill training, music education and performance.

Following a tremendously successful 2007 season, Capital Sound has made the decision to expand its camp schedule by announcing 2008 rehearsals will take place in Madison and, for the first time ever, Enterprise, Alabama. The new format will start with auditions, which will take place December 7-9 in Madison, one week later (December 14-16) in Alabama. The two camps will continue in January, and again in March.

The idea for the Southern camps stems from the established relationship that was formed this past year between the corps and Enterprise High School following the tragic tornado that destroyed the school last March. The corps provided relief supplies for the town, and students from the community joined the corps for the 2007 season. Several more students from the area have expressed interest in joining for 2008, and the idea for the southern camps was created as a vehicle to allow them the opportunity without having to travel north every month.

Corps director, Marc Gofstein, and Enterprise High School Assistant Direct Director, Jason Smith, expressed excitement about the joint venture. "This is a great opportunity for Capital Sound to attract members from the southern part of the country," said Gofstein. "The kids from Enterprise that marched this year have been great ambassadors for us, and they've stirred a lot of interest in the area. Having camps in Enterprise will allow us both to make our relationship even stronger."

Smith added his thoughts. "Capital Sound made a tremendous impression on us down here. Our kids had great stories to tell when they got back from tour, and the excitement they conveyed got more kids hungry to march with them. Having them here will really strengthen the bond between our community, and Madison."

Interested students can get more information, and RSVP for the camps, by calling the corps at 608-212-7535, or email corps director Marc Gofstein at corpsdirector@capsound.org.

NEW UNIFORM PROTOTYPE IS HERE!

The long awaited arrival of the new uniform has finally happened. Many thanks go out to Brent Becker of Stanbury Uniforms for this wonderful design. In addition, Pat Seidling (also of Stanbury) gets a host of thanks.

As of now, this is only a prototype. We will be evaluating everything about this one and making any necessary changes. Note - there will be a metal looking pin in the shape of the capitol that will appear both on the front, black side of the jacket (performers view) as well as on the front of the shakos. They are currently being produced and will be here soon.

Lastly, thanks to Mike Cegelski for offering his services as model.
